An Advent candle is a candle marked with the days of December up to Christmas Eve. It is typically used in a household rather than a church setting: each day in December the candle is burnt down a little more, to the mark for the day, to show the passing of the days leading up to Christmas.
The deep red coloured candle has the days of Christmas marked down one side. The words on the candle read (from Dec 1 - 24): Lord, Saviour, Messiah, The Vine, The Way, The Truth, The Life, Immanuel, Redeemer, The Rock, The Word, Son of God, Counsellor, Lamb of God, High Priest, Annointed One, Living Water, Morning Star, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Lion of Judah, Good Shepherd, Prince of Peace and the Resurection. This candle is 24 cm tall and the diameter of the terra cotta base is 5 cm
Note- in this photo, the candle is stll in the protective plastic wrap and it is held in the base with elastic bands. Once it is purchased and in your home, melting a bit of wax into the base will keep it sturdy.

This candle and base has been made by SILENCE - a group of artisans in India that are deaf, blind, mute or challenged in other ways.
They are people “who can neither hear nor speak except visually and others who cannot go places except in their imagination and yet who aspire towards self sufficiency”.
