These baskets are the result of years of practice, tremendous technical skill and quality assurance. The weavers from Bolgatanga, Ghana spend countless hours stripping and dyeing elephant grass fibres into patterns and colourways that are unique.
The basket is biodegradable and resilient but will fade if left in the sun too long.
The Nyariga basket on the left in the photo is 36 cm tall to the top of the rim on the sides and 27 cm to the top of the rim in the centre and the opening is 38 cm x 31 cm.. The oval basket is 23 cm tall to the top of the rim and the opening is approximately 37 cm x 24 cm. . . The smaller Nyariga basket is 18 cm tall on the sides and 14 cm tall in the middle and the opening is approximately 17 cm x 14 cm. . The handles are all leather wrapped for comfort.
