This attractive tote bag has dramatic hand stitched Kazakh embroidery on the front. The main compartment closes with a zip fastening and opens to reveal a spacious interior with two small compartments to keep things organised. There is also a zipped pocket set into the back suitable for a mobile phone or other essentials. Size 28 cm x 22 cm
The inside of the bag is fully lined, the strap is 140 cm long and the black fabric is synthetic suede.
The back of the bag is plain black.

Mary & Martha is a company that stands or falls on the products it sells; it has to make a profit to be self sustaining and to have the cash flow to fund the expanding business and those of its artisans. They believe that by showing ethical, fair and transparent businesses practices, they can compete head to head with main stream businesses, without major donations and without running at a loss. Ethical, fair and transparent because that is in their DNA and because many said it was not possible in Mongolia. They follow the principles of “Unashamedly Ethical” personally and corporately and adhere to the 10 Fair Trade principles used by the World Fair Trade Organisation. They have been members of WFTO since 2011
I.n close partnership with their “Mongolian (citizenship) Kazakh (ethnic group) artisans”, Mary and Martha offer a wide range of bags and home décor products, all hand embroidered in the traditional way. Around 80 embroiderers are working in Bayan Olgii, either in a purpose built workshop, or at home as their circumstances suit. This is keeping traditional culture alive in the remote countryside and their income makes a significant difference to their families. The actual production of the finished products is done in Nalaikh, outside Ulaanbaatar where around 15 trained machinists put all the bags and other items together.

Global Village Nanaimo uses Canada Post for shipping, unless special arrangements are made. Our shipping rates are effective for anywhere in Canada.
We are a non-profit social enterprise, and we work within a fair trade pricing model to ensure we are able to support the vendors. That means that we need to charge fees to cover the costs of the shipping. We do not charge any handling costs, and we will continue to offer the most reasonable shipping costs possible, in order to cover the costs.
